{"id":2886,"date":"2018-11-20T09:29:33","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T14:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keysolutions.us\/blog\/?p=2886"},"modified":"2018-11-20T09:29:33","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T14:29:33","slug":"nj-tax-amnesty-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keysolutions.us\/blog\/nj-tax-amnesty-program\/","title":{"rendered":"NJ Tax Amnesty Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>NJ Tax Amnesty Program<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Opportunity to Avoid Penalties &amp;\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Reduce Interest Assessments<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>New Jersey has announced that it will be implementing a tax amnesty program that will run from Mid-November 2018 through January 15, 2019. <strong>NJ has stated that not all details of the program are currently available and further announcements about the program will be made<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For taxpayers granted amnesty, NJ will abate all penalties, 50% of the accrued interest, and waive cost of collection and recovery fees. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While some restrictions apply, currently announced eligible tax periods cover NJ tax liabilities for tax returns <!--more-->due on or after February 1, 2009 through September 1, 2017. The program will begin November 15, 2018 and <strong>end by January 15, 2019<\/strong> (exact dates to be announced in the future).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens if you are eligible to participate in the program and decide not to participate? NJ will assess an additional 5% non-abatable penalty on any eligible debts not resolved during the amnesty program. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NJ will hopefully soon announce who is eligible and how to participate in its amnesty program.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>TAX PLANNING TIP #1<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/span> If the NJ amnesty program is anything like last year\u2019s PA amnesty program, <strong>taxpayers need to act immediately<\/strong>. The PA amnesty program allowed taxpayers to file unfiled prior years\u2019 returns.
